Arch. Tsvetan Petrov: ”The façade represents the deep and professional understanding of the parameters of the project program”.
SHARE Architects: Never judge a book by its cover. But a building by the facade?
Tsvetan Petrov: At first sight the façade is meant to catch the eye and then show the story of the architectural concept. It is not just a visual teaser, or a protective skin, rather is an expression of the holistic idea of the building. At another level the façade represents the deep and professional understanding of the parameters of the project program.
How can an architect design a facade so that it would be in harmony with the history of the past, with the trends of the present and with the needs of the future?
As architects, we hold the responsibility to create and work in three time dimensions. At any given time we should be: respectful and knowledgeable of the past; extremely sensitive to the needs of the present while boldly creating the vision for a better future.
What an architect should serve? The needs of the customer or the needs of the society?
Needless to say this is the life battle of the architect – to combine and balance the needs of everybody: the society, the customer and the man living or working in the building. Last but not least the architect serves the aesthetics of good taste and the need for a more sustainable future.
What will you share with the participants at SHARE Sofia 2022?
The event is an amazing opportunity to share how we approach and work in different context for human scale projects. We plan to show some exciting projects as well as how much team’s passion, effort and dedication we have invested in them.
The world changes faster and faster and the portrait of the architect cannot be immutable. How do you think will act the future architect?
The architect of the future will go beyond the expected and become a complex social mediator between the various participants in the project. He or she will use the driving force of the imagination and the maximum of his/hers willpower on balancing between the desires, needs and changes of our habitual environment and the requirements of the fast changing world.
The SHARE Sofia 2022 Forum took take place on 11 October at the Hyatt Regency Sofia Hotel and is organised by SHARE Architects, the largest network dedicated to architecture and construction professionals in Central and South Eastern Europe and The Chamber of Architects in Bulgaria (CAB).
The goal of SHARE Sofia 2022 is to focus on design and performance for the next generation of facades and their impact in improving public space, as well as to showcase major developments in Bulgaria and internationally.
