About the project

In September 2019, in Sofia, a one-of-a-kind new generation school opened for the first time in Bulgaria. The institution houses a school unit and a kindergarten, both of which combine the most modern teaching methods and an environment that meets the leading world trends in the field of education. IPA designed the building keeping the children and the future of Bulgaria in mind. Our team believes that architecture should support the quality of education and children's development, and this is a guiding principle throughout the design process.

IPA's team of specialists worked on the overall implementation of the project and succeeded in making Britanica Park School a reality in less than a year.

A guiding principle in shaping the building concept was the belief that the environment can shape thinking and habits and encourages communication and curiosity. It also plays a leading role in enlightening children's sense of aesthetics and culture. This is precisely why IPA followed these principles from the very beginning of the process and observed them consistently until the final phase of the project.

Another focus of IPA and the contractors is to create a healthy environment that promotes conditions for socialization and communication. That is exactly why in the functional organization of the school the common spaces are a priority. It is where students can rest, study, exchange ideas, and start new friendships.

Logically, it is precisely the atrium that is the heart of the campus. It was designed as an "inner square," accessible from all parts of the school. The roof in this area is glazed to allow the penetration of natural sunlight.

The classrooms provide a comfortable, bright, and peaceful learning atmosphere. The rooms offer seating and free areas for interactive and alternative forms of learning.

In addition, several additional spaces have been developed to support the learning process - halls for events, dance, music, and theater arts. An outdoor amphitheater was built in the schoolyard.

The facade is designed with large glazing that brings sunlight directly into the rooms. They are integrated with the natural feel and colors of ceramics, bringing coziness and comfort.

Throughout the entire project, we followed the highest modern standards, basing our work on the principles of achieving high energy efficiency, building an independent photovoltaic system, implementing innovative water purification technology, and using all environmentally friendly building materials.
